Practicum Placement Information
For incoming Advanced Standing students

The Office of Field Education works with incoming Advanced Standing students to facilitate the process of choosing a practicum site.

Beginning this process as soon as possible ensures you’ll have wider practicum site opportunities. You do not have to formally accept your offer of admission before starting this process.

When meeting with your Field Faculty advisor, please keep your questions to practicum-related inquiries only. For questions related to accepting your offer, the MSW Program, background checks, etc., please reach out to uwsocialwork@uw.edu or make an appointment with an admissions advisor

THE PROCESS

After submitting the survey, email your resume to sswfield@uw.edu

There are recordings for each specialization, as well as recordings for specific traineeships including WDI, WSW, Latinx, and CWTAP. Find the recordings below.

Your Field Faculty advisor will reach out via email

You won’t be contacted until the specialization survey has been submitted.

Meet with your Field Faculty advisor

You’ll discuss the practicum placement process, your goals, and potential practicum sites. Timely communication with your Field Faculty advisor is crucial for gaining access to a broad selection of practicum options.

When meeting with your Field Faculty advisor, please keep your questions to practicum-related inquiries only.

Begin exploring practicum listings

You’ll receive a link to the practicum listings webpage from your Field Faculty. As you browse placements, consult with your Field Faculty advisor. Do not apply to any practicum sites until you have formally accepted your offer of admission and paid the enrollment deposit.

Apply

After accepting your offer of admission and paying the enrollment deposit, you can begin applying and interviewing with practicum sites with your Field Faculty’s guidance. Practicum placements must be finalized by end of April.
